Wells Fargo Day

For the last couple of years, Wells Fargo has donated $600,000 to three programs at Clemson, with the Emerging Scholars and Call Me Mister programs being proud recipients. Today we had Wells Fargo Day where members from the Wells Fargo community came and had brunch with a few students, misters, and staff associated with the programs. Wells Fargo learned how their contributions have allowed both programs to grow and be successful. The students that attended really enjoyed themselves. They made great connections and spoke on behalf of the program well. The event was a success and hopefully Wells Fargo continues to give so generously in the future.

Emerging scholars🐯💕

During this Clemson experience I learned a lot of new things. I can say I really enjoyed myself around different
people from other counties. Also, I loved when went we visited other colleges
with a lot of good programs and all kind of majors. It was a good experience for me. We'll see you soon, Cohort M...
 until next time. ✌️

Greenville Tech College Trip

Our students had a great time learning about all the opportunities at Greenville Tech today. It is a great option for our students who want to go to a two year school but don't want to live at home.

These Students are Constantly Inspiring Me Because...

...just when I think there's so much hate and sadness in the world, a child opens their mouth and I know there's hope.

Love at first sight...

"I don't believe in love at first sight, but i do believe in seeing someone from across the room and knowing instantly that they are going to matter to you. They're going to play a major role in your life."

I am here because...

In order to fully understand another person's struggle, you have to experience the same struggle for yourself. How else could you relate if you have never gone through similar situations? With that being said, I felt obligated to help first generation, low income students prepare for college because I was once in their shoes. I know how difficult it may be to prepare for college without the proper resources and support. I have been there, done that, and now I am a Program Advisor that is helping students conquer their unfortunate situation.

I completed the Emerging Scholars program in 2010. My first thoughts after my first summer attending the program were, "I am not returning, it's too much work, and I hate not being able to have my phone!" The next summer rolled around and I wanted to attend sports camps, but my mom insisted that I returned. If it wasn't for my mom, I wouldn't have completed the program and I wouldn't have obtained the skills that the Emerging Scholars program offered me. Not returning would have been my biggest regret. It's where I first learned about SAT/ACT. I learned how to navigate a website called college board that allows you to look up information on every college you can think of. I must say that because of the program, I am now a rising senior at Clemson University. Aside from the work, I made connections with people from others schools that will ALWAYS have a place in my heart. I just learned a lot throughout my experience as an Emerging Scholar and I will forever be grateful for the program and Amber Lange.

I want to continue being a positive influence in the lives of our students and serve as a mentor. Years from now, I can say that I helped high school students from my community and the surrounding areas where I am from prepare for higher education. "It is not about where you are from, but where you are going."

Life as a PA

Living in a new place, starting a new job, and meeting new people is never as easy as it seems. Now adding 55 high school students to the mixture brings it to a whole different level. This week with CohortM has honestly been stressful--remembering names, ensuring the students do their work on time, and making sure they are always safe and having fun, but after actually talking to the students and seeing them begin to get why they are actually here has been so worth it. In less than a week I have seen pride grow from frustration, joy in the place of tiredness, and worry wiped away by developed self-confidence. In such a short amount of time I truly believe Emerging Scholars has changed at least one life, if not all 55. Each day, someone new surprises me...either in what they say, how they carry themselves, or how they have truly impacted me. The students came here expecting to learn something from the program but what I didn't realize is how much I would learn from them. These children, whether they believe it themselves or not, are special and regardless of their situation or where they come from, they will be someone.

My challenge now for these students is to keep the bonds they have formed this week and remember the lessons learned in and out of the classroom to ensure that they will not simply be a statistic. They will be someone. Emerging Scholars is just a stepping stone from which their journey will begin.

ES love,
Madeline
